Public art photos

Public art has been commissioned and put in place for
thousands of years, with a view to educate, record,
commemorate or to promote an idea. In the past
few years it has also been used to engage or surprise
the viewer and for this reason it has a value rather
different to that of sculpture, although there is
significant overlap between the two

Cartagena

Sometimes public art in its relationship with the public is rather
disconcerting. This sculpture was conceived as a monument to the
victims of terrorism by Victor Ochoa and is on the esplanade at
Cartagena in Spain. His feet have been rubbed by the numbers
of similar groups having their photographs taken with him and
on him since 2009. Maybe the theme of 'life goes on' is the
most relevant in this case
