Public art photos

Public art has been commissioned and put in place for
thousands of years, with a view to educate, record,
commemorate or to promote an idea. In the past
few years it has also been used to engage or surprise
the viewer and for this reason it has a value rather
different to that of sculpture, although there is
significant overlap between the two

Volendam

Metal statue of a Dutch fisherman in Volendam, Netherlands sitting
on a bench. Next to him are crew members from various cruise ships,
also men of the sea, largely from the Philippines
