Public art photos

Public art has been commissioned and put in place for
thousands of years, with a view to educate, record,
commemorate or to promote an idea. In the past
few years it has also been used to engage or surprise
the viewer and for this reason it has a value rather
different to that of sculpture, although there is
significant overlap between the two

Arguably some of the most illustrative pieces of how interactive
public art can be, Fiona Banner's Full Stops on the South Bank in
London, part of the More London estate, are arresting in both
their simplicity and their design
