Public Open Space

Landscape architects and garden designers work on similar
projects , although there can be considerable blurring.
The simplistic view is that garden designers work primarily
on spaces that are private, whereas landscape
architects tend to work on places and spaces viewed
or used by the wider public. The needs and demands
on the spaces are different.

Of course this is far too simplistic, but can be a guide

Paddington

Amphitheatres are a seductive element to employ in a public
space because the changes in levels and sense of theatrical
presence even when not in use for performance related activities
is another way of accommodating many or few people into an
area without any strong sense of exposure. This grass covered
amphitheatre is in the centre of Sheldon Square in the new
Paddington Waterside development on the site of what was
once Paddington Basin, the terminus of the Grand Junction Canal
