Public Open Space

Landscape architects and garden designers work on similar
projects , although there can be considerable blurring.
The simplistic view is that garden designers work primarily
on spaces that are private, whereas landscape
architects tend to work on places and spaces viewed
or used by the wider public. The needs and demands
on the spaces are different.

Of course this is far too simplistic, but can be a guide

Parc Guell

The magnificent glory of Antoni Gaudi's Parc Guell is embedded in
virtually every detail and this includes the drains coming out of the
back of the Serpentine seating in Nature Square, in the shape of lion
heads evoking cathedral architecture. The seating arrangement is a
simple way to accommodate a large number of people in a large and
open public space without their feeling too exposed
