Maps
can provide answers to many questions about the background of
a site. They can explain the layout of features and give witness
to a certain randomness that can appear. They can also provide
evidence of placenames that may be of value in the history of
a site and the layout of features that are no longer extant.
Recent
projects have included many historic parks, for which map regression
is a key interpretative tool, land use history to illuminate the
findings of ecological surveys and maps have also been used to
track the progression of the Riverside Leisure Area in Gravesend
- a Thames waterfront promenade cross-referencing the findings
with records in Council notebooks.
